Tasks

On January 1, 2017, the State and University Library in Aarhus and The Royal Library in Copenhagen merged. The institutions will be collectively known as the Royal Danish Library.

As a national library, the State and University Library must contribute to collecting and making available parts of our cultural cultural heritage and preserving this for future generations. At the State and University Library, we are particularly responsible for ensuring that Danish newspapers, Danish audiovisual media and Danish web-based materials are collected and preserved for future generations.

As the national center for shared services, the State and University Library must ensure that information and documentation used sporadically in individual public libraries are available by establishing collections and lending material. At the State and University Library, we must support the activities of the public libraries by developing relevant services. As a special task, the State and University Library must support public library services to ethnic minorities and immigrants.

As a university library, the State and University Library must make sure that the information and documentation we provide for use in teaching and research at Aarhus University is of the highest national and international standard. At the State and University Library, we must contribute to communicating research findings from Aarhus University.

As a research institution, the State and University Library must carry out research within our field of activities in accordance with applicable research quality standards.
