Temporary closure of shared library system

Borrow well in advance

The shared library system will be closed for orders of books from 22 December until 4 January 2011.

We have now reached the next stage in the integration process, in which materials at the State and University Library and all Aarhus University libraries will be registered in the shared library system. With effect from 5 January, you can search for all materials at Aarhus University libraries and order them via one single user interface using the same user login, except for the library at the Danish School of Education (Aarhus Faculty of Arts as of 1 January 2011).

In connection with the conversion, the libraries will be temporarily closed over Christmas and New Year. Click here to see the details at the State and University Library website.

New user interface in the pipeline

A completely new user interface will also be implemented in connection with this conversion. The new user interface is currently (November) undergoing further development, but it is possible to test a beta version, and we encourage our users to give it a try. The version is fully integrated so you can complete book reservations and similar transactions. Everyone is welcome to test the system and make comments in the corresponding field.

The new user interface makes it possible to search for articles across all the shared electronic resources. The user interface therefore gives all Aarhus University staff and students access to more than 200 million documents.

Interruptions to operations

We will endeavour to keep any disruptions to a minimum and apologise for any inconvenience to borrowers and users of the library during the updating of the common library system, but it will be impossible to complete the conversion without some interruptions.

Please therefore note the following dates

  • From 22 December up to and including 4 January, no books or other materials can be ordered. Borrowers will still be able to use the systems for searches and to get access to electronic resources, but you will be unable to order physical materials. Materials ordered on or before 21 December can be collected until 4 January, whereupon they will be removed.
  • Materials from other libraries must be ordered no later than 1 December, otherwise delivery cannot realistically be expected before Christmas. Alternatively, you can order materials via for collection at other libraries.
  • During the period from now until mid-December, the libraries involved would like to encourage borrowers to order materials as soon as possible, preferably as early as November.

After the launch of the new system on 5 January, you can expect some delay in delivering materials. It will therefore be a good idea – also after the launch – to order your materials well in advance of your deadlines.
